Refugee Rights

Based on the                                                                                                           Convention established by the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the International Organisation for the Promotion and Defence of Human Rights (IOPDHR) is firmly committed to defending the rights of migrants and ensuring that the legal obligations of signatory states are respected in    this crucial area. The Convention is based in particular on the fundamental principle of non-refoulement, which prohibits the return of a person to their country of origin if their safety is threatened there. This principle is currently regarded as an essential pillar of international law within the United Nations community.

Despite the numerous resolutions taken at national and international level in favour of people with refugee and asylum seeker status, the current situation remains precarious.

According to data from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, more than 89.3 million people worldwide have been forced to leave their country of origin. Alarmingly, almost 41% of these migrants are in the 0-17 age group.

Faced with this reality, it is imperative for IOPDHR to highlight the rights of these individuals through our initiatives and actions.

IOPDHR is committed to promoting the protection, dignity and fundamental rights of refugees and asylum seekers.  Working in collaboration with governments, international organisations and civil society actors, the organisation works to raise awareness, defend and ensure the effective implementation of the rights of displaced persons. In doing so, IOPDHR seeks to ensure that the principles set out in the 1951 Convention are not only respected, but also strengthened and put into practice to offer adequate protection to individuals in situations of forced displacement.

In short, the International Organisation for the Promotion and Defence of Human Rights (IOPDHR) works with determination to ensure that the rights of refugees and asylum seekers are protected and respected in accordance with the standards of international law.

In the face of complex challenges and large numbers of displaced people around the world, IOPDHR remains resolutely committed to the fight for effective protection, dignity and opportunities for those who have been forced to leave their homes in search of safety and a better life.
